Italian Team Colnago Mexico and a Moser, 1982 Goodwood, 1 of 2 by foxbedlavenderI took this photo at the men's 1982 World Road Race Championships, Goodwood, UK. The bikes are on one of the Italian team cars and as you can see, the shot includes a Moser in the background. I only have this shot and one other (loaded to this set for further viewing here) of this particular team car with bikes but what I am interested to know is could this be one of Giuseppe Saronni's bikes, a number two bike perhaps? It's certainly a team member's machine and a Mexico. Could the white machine be Francesco Moser's ?
Both bicycles look to be about the right size for each rider. They're definitely important bikes which is reflected in the positions they are loaded to the car, and because of the status of both Saronni and Moser it crossed my mind that they could, possibly, be their second machines. I think Saronni's winning machine had 3/4 chromed seat stays which certainly differs from the machine in the photo.
What I do know is that I took this shot some hours before the race began, so early morning with people milling about, chatting, talking and generally soaking up the atmosphere. The car moved off soon after the shot was taken so I just don't know any more than the photograph shows.
